Our Story - Beth & Lorna

Beth

I am a neonatal nurse with over 12 years of experience working in neonatal units around the UK. I have extensive working knowledge of preterm baby clothing and often despair at the poor design of clothes meant for small babies in hospital. Also, there is a limited choice available for parents to give their baby something bright and interesting to wear in such a clinical setting. I love babies and I love beautiful designs. There is nothing wrong with white, blue and pink, but I know we can do better than this for our coolest little people.

I know that dressing your baby for the first time is a really important milestone, particularly when so much of the care feels taken out of your hands. I am humbled by the strength and courage of babies and their families dealing with the challenges they face in neonatal units. It is a profound privilege to care for and support parents & families as part of my job and I never take that for granted. I hope when you take out a SuperDinky vest from your baby keepsake box in years to come, it reminds you of the first time you dressed your baby and how that was a happy day. I also hope that when you look at that vest, you know it was made by people who really understand that experience and tried to make it a little more joyful.

Lorna

When my son was born at 31 weeks, Beth was a neonatal nurse who looked after him. She brought humour and joy to the long days I spent sitting next to his cot in hospital. She taught me how to breastfeed my baby after he had been tube fed for weeks and she gave me the confidence to take him home when he was finally ready. When she asked me to join her to help bring joy to other premmie parents, I leapt at the chance!

My only requirement was that we made the brand as sustainable, eco-friendly and climate positive as possible. Luckily, we are both equally passionate about protecting the environment and ensuring SuperDinky does too.

Mental health support is something at the heart of SuperDinky. There are well documented links between prematurity and higher rates of post-natal depression in parents (*not just mums). We both know what it is like to experience this and feel alone so we never want other premmie parents to feel this way.  Please visit our Parents Room to find lots of resources to support you.

As a team, we unite the experiences of being a preemie parent and being a neonatal nurse with 12 years experience of in supporting babies and parents. We are using our extensive knowledge of prematurity and all its complications to create specialist clothes for tiny babies that work in all hospital settings.

But SuperDinky isn't just about clothes;

  • It's about having the ability to choose clothes for your own baby in a situation where a lot of their care is out of your control.
  • It's about dressing your baby in something you love, which isn't just plain white, blue or pink.
  • It's about being there to support you with accurate, fact-based information about the journey.
  • It's about building a community of premmie parents supporting each other.
